Ceramic owl by Jules Agard (1905 - 1986).
A French painter and highly respected ceramic technician best known for his work in Vallauris with the Madoura workshop. Agard was the principal potter for Pablo Picasso for over two decades, shaping the clay forms for the artist to decorate. Agard also worked with the likes of Marc Chagall and Matisse, helping them realise their ceramic ambitions. Despite his links with these iconic artists, he continued to make work under his own name, returning to his studio every evening to create these free-flowing imaginative animals.
