A rare ceramic lamp by Kitty Rix (1901 – 1951) for the Wiener Werkstätte.

One of a handful of female potters working under the likes of Josef Hoffmann and Koloman Moser at the Secessionist workshop, the Wiener Werkstätte. Rix began her association with the Werkstätte in 1924, following in the footsteps and taking over from her older sister, Felice Rix, who had worked there from 1917 to 1923. In 1931 she designed the last ceramic pieces for the Wiener Werkstätte before emigrating abroad due to her Jewish faith. Little is known about her life during or after the war and she subsequently disappeared into obscurity. It is believed she died around 1950.

Signed with ‘KR’ and the Wiener Werkstätte monogram to the base.

C1925, Vienna.
