A rare original carving of an angel by Eric Gill (1982 - 1940).
The sculpture was carved as part of a commission for the Chapel at the Royal Russell School, London which was built as a memorial to employees in the drapery trade killed in WWI and opened by the Prince of Wales in 1924. In November of 1925, Gill sent two models, one in stone and this in wood as planned designs to go each side of the chancel arch.

Signed ‘E.G’ to the reverse.
