Carlo Bugatti (1856 - 1940) Shelf

£4,950.00
sold

A remarkable and rare wall hanging shelf by Carlo Bugatti (1856 - 1940).

Patriarch of the famous Bugatti family, Carlo was a ground breaking and innovative turn of the century designer. During the late 1880’s when this shelf would have been made he was included in both the Industrial Arts Exhibition in Milan and the Italian Exhibition in Earl’s Court, London. Most of the furniture from this period (1880 - 1900) utilised ebonized wood heavily decorated with metal inlays.

See similar example sold at Sotheby’s Monaco in June, 1981 attached.

The shelf has been freshly restored and is in fabulous condition. It has been hooked and is ready to hang.

Comprised of various woods, brass inlay, copper and mother of pearl.

Circa 1880, Italy.
